The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a targeted programme of
support for primary and post primary children and young people who
have been identified as potentially at risk of early school leaving.
It aims to have a positive impact on students? levels of attendance,
participation and retention. It is a support under the Delivering
Equality of Opportunity in Schools (DEIS) Programme, funded by the
Department of Education. ?
ABOUT NORTH FINGAL SCHOOL COMPLETION PROGRAMME:
The Programme provides supports to 2 Post Primary and 4 Primary DEIS
schools in the North Fingal area.?
THE POSITION:
The Project Worker will work as part of a team providing support to
targeted students in school, after school, out of school and during
holiday time.?
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Level 8-degree standard qualification in one of the following
disciplines:? youth work, social science, education/teaching or a
related discipline.?
* A minimum of 1 years? practical experience of working with
children and young people at risk within a supportive environment.
* An understanding of the factors attributing to early school
leaving.?
* A good understanding of the Irish Education system and Education
welfare legislation.?
* Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with
at risk children, young people and their families.?
* Excellent communication, planning, organization, networking and
report writing skills.
* Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work on own initiative
but seek guidance as appropriate.
* Ability to manage competing demands in tight timescales.
* A full clean driving licence and use of a car.?
* Computer literacy.
* Child protection trained.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
* Experienced in the delivery of evidence based/informed
programmes.?
* Ability to develop and deliver programmes to meet the needs of our
target group.?
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:?
* Identify student needs and develop appropriate interventions.?
* To provide behavioral and emotional support to participants in a
small group or one-to-one basis, supporting solution-focused
outcomes.?
* To liaise with school personnel, external agencies and
families/guardians as required.
* Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of
interventions.?
* Comply with project guidelines in relation to record keeping and
report writing.?
* To attend meetings and participate in staff training where
relevant.
* Undertake any other tasks as required by the Local Coordinator.
* Flexibility and the ability to respond to needs in a demanding and
changing environment.?
LOCATION: The post will require travel between schools within the
North Fingal SCP cluster with an office base in Balbriggan.

SALARY: The salary scale is per Dublin Dun Laoghaire Education and
Training Board YOUTH WORKER NEW ENTRANT SCALE. Starting point is
dependent on skills and experience.?
